Creating Luna Crochet was a journey and a half. I have been toying with the idea of starting up an independent crochet business for a couple of months, as I started to crochet again during the first COVID 19 lockdown in 2020. Is Luna Crochet the first independent business that I have created? The simple answer is no. I have a successful Hair and beauty business that I started back in 2018 when I became a qualified hairdresser. The second venture that I created was a Drag entertainer which I set up in 2017 but I but didn't really start focusing on that till 2018. then in February 2022 I released a candle company called Elle Chanel Candles which is still in development now, but it has been made public to allow the hype to grow.
What do you need to create a business?
The most important thing you need is an idea of what you would like to do/ sell. What makes you stand out from the crowd? Is it your packaging? Is it the quality of your products? These are all the things you need to know the answers too. Personally, with Luna Crochet what makes me stand out from the crowd is that everything is made by me personally when you order from my website therefore every product that I create is unique and different from every other product previously made by me.
The second important thing you need to create your business is to have the funds to create your business. I recommend that you have enough funds to support your business for at least three months. Not all business ventures require a massive budget. For example Lunar Beauty I started with one hundred pounds. But Elle Chanel Candles cost me so far over five hundred. These two examples show how little you can start off. Luna Crochet cost me less due to me creating the product as its ordered and they is a lot less supplies needed as hooks are a one time purchase. Where as Elle Chanel Candles cost more as the moulds which are also one time purchase cost more. But then I also had to buy scents, wax etc which run out quickly.
Thirdly you need to create social media's to promote your products. I personally opened a social media account on nearly every platform. But I mainly use Instagram and my Facebook Page. By having social media it helps you draw in customers easily and the best part is its free. The advice I will give is show people behind the scenes, this helps people see that they is a person behind the business and it creates a trust between you and potential customers.
You also need a name, what's a business without a name? I wouldn't stress over it to much though because a lot of people do really start to over think it as they have everything else planned but can't come up with a name. It will come naturally eventually, if you can't come up with something use your name! Your name is a brand it is you at the end of the day so use it.
